A local young man worked as a model for me for this painting. As he struck a pose and looked up I saw the image described in Genesis 4:9-10, the confrontation between Cain and God. Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” “I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?” The LORD said, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.” The wheat field symbolizes Cain’s occupation while the clouds testify to the approaching storm of God’s anger. Dressed in contemporary blue jeans and a gold necklace, the young man represents the spirit of Cain. |
