As the deer pants for streams of
water, so my soul pants for you, O God. Psalms
42:1 In this painting the monk’s robe symbolizes a person who has outwardly forsaken the things of this world for the things of God. Similarly, when we seek Him with all our heart we must inwardly forsake our will and prefer His. There are instances in the Bible where God's presence is manifested by a cloud or smoke as in the book of Exodus where He came to Moses in a cloud, and in Isaiah’s encounter with God smoke filled the temple. While there may not be smoke or clouds when we pray, we are nonetheless entering into His presence. |
